In this area there are lots of bunnies that one was down the road about 1/4 mile. I came upon it while taking a walk one day. We have cougars and bobcats in the area and an occasional coyote. Now and then we get an owl or a hawk, but i am kind of surprised with the amount of bunnies around that we don’t have hawks that just hang out here full time in the summer. We don’t see them right in the yard very often because we have a couple cats that like to chase them.
Not really much you can do unless you carry a gun or something and I’ve never shot a gun so I would likely be a bigger danger with a gun to the neighborhood than a cougar LOL
We have black bears too one day I came upon one walking down the road he was hidden behind a tree where two roads meet, so when I saw him I was only about 20 feet away. I first I had this moment of “oooh shit” panic but then that just washed away and I just felt really blessed to see this amazing creature so close. He was curious about me but was not aggressive at all. Luckily it wasn’t a mama with cubs though!
I haven’t actually seen any cougars myself they really keep to themselves and there is lots of room here for them to do so. There was a print in the mud right outside the house though the summer before last right after a rain. It had been very dry and there was a big puddle so I assume it was just looking for a drink. Occasionally there are prints along the road. One neighbor went out to his barn after a new snow and found the print of a tail like the cougar had sat up and was going to try and jump into the little loft in his barn, but changed it’s mind and he had tracks from there out across the street.
i see a tail of cotton - are these cottontail bunnes? we have snowshoe hares in maine - they certainly have big hind feet. do cottontails turn white in the winter?
I don’t know what variety of bunnies they are but they diapear all winter, although one day there was a track in the snow, but only one, so that may have been some other variety passing through. I’ve never seen a white one. They don’t varry in color at all. In Montana we had bunnies that were all different colors that looked more like escaped pets that had adapted to the wild.
Oooo!
cute!
Are these bunnies in the backyard?
All the ones around my house only seem to last at the most a week before something takes them out.

Do you take precautions for the cougars, they could be trouble?
