Every year there seems to be flowers I’ve never seen before here and these have been starting to pop up here and there.
When I went to down down at the bottom of cat creek there were a couple of horses on the loose. All of the horses that live down there all seemed to be where they belonged this one stopped to look at me but the other wouldn’t and the other looked kind of tattered it hadn’t been brushed down so it had a few clumps of winter hair and the main was a tangled mess. When I went by the house that has the most horses no one was home so I don’t know where these horses belong.![]()
For some reason the turkey and deer always seem to come around the house at the same times The turkey had some little ones with them it was hard to get a picture of them because the back yard is full of plants bigger than they are so you just see these little brownish specks of movement.![]()

A couple does showed up and then a few minutes later a buck was with them

He was leaning over the little fence trying to eat some leaves off our apricot tree so I said “hey buck, stop eating that tree, it’s off limits” and he turned to look at me and I wondered if he may have been the same buck that was nibbling off the bird feeder early last winter. Then he tried to nible again and I had to tell him not to again then he wandered away.
We’ve been getting afternoon thunderstorms so hopefully that will bring back my sunsets since we have had so few for weeks on end. This one was kind of ho hum though.
You had some great photo ops. I’ve been waiting for a good turkey photo op for some time now, and still waiting.
I’m wondering, in your neighborhood is there a restriction on deer hunting?
Around my place, within the city limits of Ottawa there is lots of deer hunting and because of this, I almost never see a buck.
Those turkeys are so hard to catch! They are always bobbing their heads and moving so you need a fast shutter speed, but also fast focus, and my camera is great for the all in one that it is, but it is not real fast on the focusing that I need for some wildlife shots. Those babies are so fast it’s amazing they just zip right through the yard and into the brush so fast that you see movement and they are gone!
There is supposed to be hunting restrictions in all the higher density subdivisions in the county and I think most people respect that up here, but we live in unit 6 of a huge development. It is the most remote and it is all one acre lots. The majority of them are empty because there is only one little area of unit 6 that has power. So there are only a handful of us that live up here and most have 2-5 lots each. We are 8 miles on dirt road from the main highway, so some people think they can hunt up here because they don’t think it is a high density area. But the fact that they are one acre lots makes it that as far as the county is concerned. If someone tries to hunt though there will be a neighbor somewhere that will let them know they can’t hunt in here.
I think the deer know that this is a safe haven for them. Not many people and rarely someone attempting to hunt. They seem to hang out up here for as long as they can until the snow gets too deep. Last summer, and the one before, there was a big group of 6-9 bucks that would hang out together often on this land across the street that is owned by the Ute Indian Tribe. This year I have only seen four together so far while out on a walk
